I have been passionate about civil rights and family rights for over 20 years. I started off doing advocacy for disability access and victims of domestic violence, and worked as a legal assistant. Everyday I heard horrendous stories of families ripped apart and destroyed, and it broke my heart to see how little the professionals around me seemed to care. I saw CPS families as extra vulnerable, because the public at large holds so many misconceptions about the burden of proof needed by CPS to take children, and they believe that if the state takes the kids they are saving them from horrible PROVEN abuse. That simply isn't true when you look at the statistics, children are frequently taken for low level concerns and then put at risk of the most serious forms of abuse in foster care. I decided to specialize in CPS cases because I saw these parents needed and deserved someone that would invest in them and really fight to restore their rights.
The purpose of this site isn't to bash case workers or the system as a whole, as there are some families that need the intervention and some workers in it for the right reasons. Conversely, there are many that aren't and those are the families we serve. CPS Coaching is for:
I saw first-hand that family law courts and CPS were in desperate need of reform, and I worked hard to become a knowledge advocate so that I could really help the parents I now serve. In school I loaded my toolbox with knowledge about Child Welfare policies and procedures, state and federal laws, and solutions to all the common problems families face. At CPS Coach you won't find a bunch of cutesy exercises, and I don't diagnose you or treat you with anything. I am not an attorney and will leave all legal advice and guidance up to you and your attorney. But if you are a good parent and willing to put in the work, then coaching will help your case, and as your consultant I will be happy to participate with your attorney and caseworker in case management and goal achievement.
My approach is simple and grounded in resolving concerns related to parenting abilities (alleged or actual). Courts care about actions, not how you feel or what you think- they care what you do, and if you work your butt off to address their concerns, challenge the validity of the allegations, and stay child centered you'll make progress and impress them. My entire program resolves around actions to prove your fitness, and I document the heck out of it so you'll have meticulous reports and records to prove your hard work and defend against allegations.
Finally, I am an ordained minister. When walking the painful path of CPS all parents experience trauma and fear. As a minister I will support you in making sure that your spirit stays hopeful and focused on unity, salvation, and purposefulness. We may never understand why terrible things happen, but we must believe that we will be given the strength and tools to endure what is before us. Your heart and mind will dictate your experience, no matter your faith, and together we will work to ensure that both stay strong and forward focused. All faiths and no faiths are welcome, and all will benefit from the support, encouragement, and confidentiality ministering offers.
I promise each and every client I work with that I will be a partner within their process. I will treat you with respect, and I will always be honest in sharing my thoughts and opinions with you. Together we will be a team, and we will strategically break your case apart into strengths and weaknesses so that we may find opportunities to challenge your case and prove your value as a parent. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.
